Cement shingle siding
Shingles are wetted, the nails are pulled or cut, and each piece comes down whole where it can. They are stacked and wrapped in heavy plastic, never tossed to the ground.

Asbestos-cement siding and some older roofing are on MDH’s list of home products known to contain asbestos. MDH advises leaving them alone while they are in good shape. When a re-side, an addition or a teardown means the siding has to go, we take it off with as little breakage as we can and wrap it for disposal.
Exterior work counts toward the state’s residential limits, and siding and roofing in houses of up to four units lost their exemption on July 1, 2021. We work on houses and small apartment buildings in Edina, Richfield and Hopkins.

Older roofing can contain asbestos too. We sample it before a tear-off and remove positive layers before the roofer starts.
For damaged siding, MDH suggests careful repair, and covering it is sometimes an option where local codes allow. We can price removal of a damaged stretch on its own.
Window glazing is on MDH’s list as well. When windows come out with the siding, we sample the glazing at the same visit.
Exterior jobs need a different setup from indoor work.
Plastic is spread along the foundation to catch chips and is bagged with the rest of the waste.
Asbestos siding is turned away at Hennepin County’s drop-off sites, so none of it goes there. We label every wrapped bundle and haul the load to a landfill approved for asbestos, with a waste manifest traveling alongside.
